HighLevel vs Systeme.io for a solo creator

The question: if you're one person selling a course or a small offer, do you need HighLevel, or is Systeme.io enough? I haven't run a business on either. This is what the two pricing pages say, and what I'd conclude from them.

What HighLevel charges

The HighLevel pricing page lists three plans: $97 a month (or $970 a year) for Starter with 3 sub-accounts, $297 a month for Unlimited, and $497 a month for the Pro plan with SaaS Mode. Every plan includes unlimited contacts and users.

The subscription isn't the whole bill. HighLevel's AI, phone and text usage costs extra. The same page marks Conversation AI, Voice AI, Reviews AI, email and SMS marketing, and calling with "usage based charges apply," and its FAQ says you pay separately for phone numbers, SMS, emails sent and premium AI usage. It also says those usage fees can apply during the 14-day free trial. Budget for them before you sign up, because the $97 is a floor.

HighLevel's pricing guide explains how that billing works. Usage comes out of an Agency Wallet, and when the balance drops below your minimum it charges your card on file to refill. The guide lists email at $0.675 per 1,000 emails, says phone pricing is the same as Twilio's, and charges $0.01 per execution for premium workflow actions.

What Systeme.io charges

The Systeme.io pricing page has a free plan with up to 2,000 contacts, 3 sales funnels and 1 course, and it says no credit card is required. Paid plans are $17 a month (Startup, 5,000 contacts), $47 (Webinar, 10,000 contacts) and $97 (Unlimited). The page says all plans include unlimited email sends and 0% transaction fees.

What reviewers on Software Advice say

On Software Advice's comparison page, Systeme.io is rated 4.8 from 2,131 reviews and HighLevel 4.1 from 90. Ease of use is 4.6 for Systeme.io and 3.7 for HighLevel. One HighLevel reviewer there, from a media production company, wrote that when you give a client a sub-account, "you become their software provider as well," including setup, building workflows and training AI. A Systeme.io reviewer complained that the system "initially dumps to many e-mails" pushing an upgrade. These are other people's ratings and opinions, not mine.

What people on Reddit say

In a January 2026 r/WebsiteSEO thread, u/AgilePrsnip wrote: "systeme io is simpler and faster to launch, but seo control is limited. gohighlevel is overkill unless you need crm and automations." In a September 2026 r/CRMSoftware thread about HighLevel alternatives, u/rmsroy wrote: "GHL is genuinely built for agencies managing multiple clients, not solo marketers at a single company."

Which one I'd pick for a solo creator

For a solo creator selling a course, a newsletter or a digital product, I don't think HighLevel is worth it. Systeme.io's free plan covers funnels, email and a course, and you can stay there until you pass 2,000 contacts. HighLevel's pricing is organized around sub-accounts and agencies (the Unlimited plan is labeled "Built for growing agencies"), and the metered texting and AI parts are the features a course seller is least likely to need.

HighLevel makes more sense if your business runs on texting and calling leads, booking appointments and collecting reviews, the way a local service business does, or if you plan to set it up for clients. In that case you're paying for things Systeme.io doesn't list at all, and the usage charges are the cost of the channel. If that's you, the HighLevel pricing page is the place to check current rates before the trial starts.
